Building Culturally Intelligent Organizations and Supporting Your Employee’s Mental Health and Well-Being
This webinar will introduce participants to the impact of culture in their organizations. It will explore how a good understanding of cultural factors can help company leaders develop a thoughtful and inclusive business. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is the capability to relate and work effectively across cultures. Culture has been a key competency in fields ranging from leadership, psychology, engineering, and finance to accounting and marketing. The higher your CQ, the more likely you will experience success leading in a diverse, globalized workplace.
According to the World Health Organization, "employee mental health" is a blanket term for the psychological, social and emotional well-being of individuals in the workplace. Stress and anxiety impacts employees and their families in many harmful ways. To support mental health in your company and avoid the major pitfalls, you should understand what can positively or negatively change an employee's mental health at work.

About the Presenter: Dr. Joseph Smedley is a native of Chicago IL. He is Founder and President of Smedley and Smedley Consulting & Training LLC (www.smedleyandsmedley.com) based in Noblesville IN.
His management consulting firm is a member of the Noblesville and OneZone Chambers of Commerce and helps businesses, and healthcare organizations foster a workplace which promotes, supports, and improves the mental health and well-being of employees and their families.
Included in his firm’s solutions are strategies for developing cultural intelligence in business. He is a licensed psychotherapist in the state of Indiana. Dr. Smedley’s private practice provides consulting and counseling for VITAL WorkLife headquartered in Minneapolis MN. VITAL WorkLife, Inc. is a national behavioral health consulting practice and Employee Assistance Provider (EAP) supporting all dimensions of well-being in the workplace. Clients are physicians and other advanced practice providers (APP’s) in hospitals and health care systems.
His private practice also provides consulting and counseling for New Directions Behavioral Health Solutions. New Directions is an Employee Assistance Provider that helps guide individuals toward balance in their careers and personal lives. Clients are employees of the United States Postal Service and other companies.
Other positions include Director of Human Resources Administration for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at Advocate Healthcare, Director Mental health Services Alivio Medical Center, Internal Consultant Human Resources Planning, United Airlines.
Dr. Smedley’s academic appointments include adjunct assistant professor in both the School of Education, and the Purdue School of Science - Department of Psychology, at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He is the former Chair of the Department of Psychology at Martin University. Dr. Smedley obtained his BS in psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and an MS and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Howard University in Washington, DC. He was also awarded a Certificate for Social Scientists in Neuroscience from the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Smedley is a published author and is a member of the American Psychological Association.
